The 8.1 PTR was updated with the introduction questline for the Battle for Darkshore Warfront on the Horde side. Below, we went through the questline, as well as possible implications for the aftermath of this questline.

Darkshore Questline

We start this questline at the Banshee's Veil, by talking to Nathanos and accepting Trouble in Darkshore. We must investigate what is going on in the former Night Elf zone, and talk to Dread Admiral Tattersail to go there.

When you arrive in Darkshore, the zone looks much different than the chaos left by the Burning of Teldrassil. An unnatural night, bathed in a giant dark moon, permeates the zone. The remains of Teldrassil are no longer visible, hidden by the thick fog by Azeroth's ocean. You will immediately notice that the area around Lor'danel has been turned into a Goblin lumber mill. You will also have a debuff, Hunted.

On Black Moon Rising, Dark Ranger Round-Up and Quit Vining!, we attempt to discover what is causing the unnatural night, as well as free goblin shredders and raise Night Elf forces as Dark Rangers. The lieutenants we defeat are part of a seemingly new force, the Army of the Black Moon.

After defeating all Army of the Black Moon lieutenants, a lost wisp starts following you. We bring it back to Nathanos on We're Not Out of the Woods Yet, as it might have the information we require.

On The Night Warrior, we consult the Lost Wisp to find out why the moon went dark. A cinematic is supposed to pop-up here, but it's currently disabled on the PTR. It is safe to assume that we see a cinematic where Tyrande performs the ritual to become the Night Warrior.

After this quest, we go to retrieve the body of Delaryn Summermoon in Where Hope Dies, in an area aptly named Delaryn's Demise.

Nathanos Blightcaller says: There is one more asset to acquire. One who resisted... and failed. The Dark Lady was very... specific in her wishes.

After finding Delaryn's corpse, you're spotted by Sira Moonwarden, leader of the Wardens. You're forced to fight with her, and after defeating the Warden, Nathanos appears. You can then choose to kill the Night Elf, or let Nathanos do the dirty job for you.

On The Dead of Night, we need to protect the two Val'kyr sent by Sylvanas as they attempt to raise both Delaryn and Sira. However, the Night Warrior herself, Tyrande Whisperwind, arrives! While the ritual happens, Malfurion Stormrage also shows up. Unfortunately, the Val'kyr manage to raise both Delaryn and Sira, who turn against Tyrande. This is not without a complete loss for the Alliance - Brynja, one of Sylvanas' Val'kyr, die in the process.

After we hurt Tyrande a bit, she gets mind controlled by Brynja, one of the Val'kyr.

Sira and Delaryn are then raised as forsaken.

Tyrande then strikes Brynja, killing the val'kyr.

After we return to Lor'danel Landing, we see both Sira and Delaryn as forsaken. In Aftermath, we talk to Nathanos. There is another cinematic, also disabled on the PTR.

After talking to Nathanos, we return to Zuldazar on Warfront Preparations, and prepare for the Battle for Darkshore.

Delaryn's Death

In the short story Elegy, the death of Delaryn Summermoon is explored in great detail. We get to experience much greater sorrow than what we've seen of her during the Warbringers: Sylvanas cinematic, with her calling out for Elune in her last moments. This might help explain Delaryn's sudden attitude shift after being raised as forsaken, openly denouncing Elune.

However, this does not fully explain how Delaryn would suddenly go from being a fervent Elune follower to openly following Sylvanas, so mind control can also be at play. After all, Tyrande herself gets mind-controlled for a short duration so the Val'kyr can finish raising both elves.

The parallels between Sylvanas and Arthas also continue - Sylvanas was very specific in wanting to raise Delaryn and Delaryn alone, and once raised, she's turned into a Dark Ranger Captain. When Arthas raised Sylvanas as a banshee, he specifically sought her out - while stripping the former High Elf of her free will.

This could also explain why Sira also went from taunting Nathanos not long before her death to abandoning Tyrande on her revival as Forsaken.

Sylvanas' True Objective

The quest Dark Ranger Round-Up, the quest objective becomes very interesting as Sylvanas seemingly has plans for the Sentinels she wants to raise as Forsaken：

These night elf incursions have left us undermanned. We need reinforcements to hold this ground until our army arrives.

Through the A Good War short story, there were hints that Sylvanas would have a ulterior motive between all of her actions, being more clearly described near the end of the story:

What would be this ulterior motive? After Sylvanas' failure to capture and use Eyir as a means to create new Forsaken ( A New Life for Undeath), she could be using the faction war as a mere excuse to raise more Forsaken. There are many parallels to Arthas in Sylvanas’ recent behavior, so perhaps she ultimately wants to raise an army of Forsaken to rival the Lich King’s army of Scourge in size.

As part of the pact, one Val'kyr took Sylvanas' place in the endless void, leaving her with eight remaining val'kyr.

不过请大家记住，“好”与“坏”，“对”与“错”其实是一种很相对的概念。出发角度不同，所站立场不同，“好”“坏”也是不同的。

当然，译者个人认为：暴雪通过各种手段激发玩家对这种好坏概念的共鸣以及反思也恰恰是这个版本最有趣的部分。玩家不再是单纯的体验剧情，而是亲身将感情投入其中。这也是争霸艾泽拉斯版本为何如此与以往不同的原因。

只希望大家能保持心态，虽然投入到游戏之中是好事。但是大家朋友一场，对游戏的讨论最好不要转变为对个人的攻击。
